According to Wikipedia, Perdido Key State Recreation Area is made up of 247 acres and sits on a barrier island. The island area protects the mainland from winds and dangerous tides, and offers areas for birds and other coastal animals to make their homes.
The nearby Big Lagoon State Recreation Area is named for the body of water on which it sits, Big Lagoon. The 678-acre park opened in 1978. It is a natural habitat to a huge variety of birds and animals, including "gray foxes, raccoons, skunks, opossums, great blue herons and other waterfowl, in addition to a variety of other birds." With over 75 campsites, 5 sheltered picnic areas, a massive amphitheater, and so much more, the area makes Perdido Key a can't-miss destination.
